Our solution

To deliver a customised experience for USU members on a mobile app interface that enables students to get the most out of their university experience.

The solution streamlines the university students’ user journey, using personalisation technologies and microservices to guide members’ online experiences according to their interest personas.

Built on a headless frontend with microservice architecture that connects to SaaS-based platforms with open APIs, the system is architected to be integrated into the University of Sydney’s existing internal systems.

Our Strategy

The strategy for USU was to leverage advancing data-driven techniques – such as personalised content and localised experience – and deliver a student experience driven by data insights and contemporary user experience.

After discovery findings uncovered that students spent an average of seven hours a day on their mobile devices, for which they would look at their social media (66%), make purchases (28%) and check emails (84%), the strategy became about providing a way students could rely on a single platform that combined many of these daily functions.

Our results

Through a comprehensive digital overhaul, the University of Sydney Union now boasts a high-speed, user-friendly experience with JAMM.™ Headless Frontend Accelerator.

USU became one of our most compelling arguments for a headless framework to date. The reason headless formed the basis of the strategic proposal is that, in headless architecture, the front end is decoupled from any platform and provides more flexibility to control how content is displayed to the user.

The integration of BigCommerce, WordPress, and Contentful CMS platforms ensures seamless content curation and e-commerce functionality. Ortto's hyper-personalisation and Algolia's advanced search capabilities have greatly enriched user interactions. With Stripe, subscription payments are now secure and efficient, completing this transformative digital journey.
